How to Make a Rope Rappelling Harness – A simple guide for quick construction
Making a rope rappelling harness is a simple task that is very easy to do provided you’ve been properly trained on how to do it. These kinds of harnesses can be purchased at your local sporting goods store pre-made. However, we’ve decided to provide our readers with instructions on how to do it themselves, so that you can avoid having to add any sort of unnecessary expense to your budget. Climbing webbing can be used for this process if you have it. Your legs, hips, and waist will have loops that are provided to you by the sit string rope’s rappelling harness. You then connect that unit to the carabiner.
Step #1 – You need to get a sufficient amount of webbing. These can be purchased at any sporting goods store, and this webbing will be used to tie your rope rappelling harness.
Step #2 – Using the overhead knots, you need to tie 2 leg loops (which are called bowlines). They need to be a bit larger than the circumference of the area of your thighs, and you’ll need to leave a small link (about 6″) of webbing inbetween the loops.
Step #3 – Step one of your legs into each loop, then bring the harness around your waist. From there, tighten those loops around your leg until they hug you, and they feel very snug. Next, pull the remaining webbing to the back of your legs, and wrap them around the outside of your legs, and under each of the leg loops.
Step #4 – Cross the remaining webbing in the form of an “X” in the front of your body, and then around to your backside. The two ends should be near your belly button when done.
Step #5 – Tie the ends together (by using a water or square knot), and finally with an overhand knot.
Step #6 – Clip the water knot together with the X across your abs by using a locking carabiner. *Note* You have to make certain that the carabiner is clipped on with the opening portion, that is facing towards you facing up. Once complete, you are all set and ready to go!

Disclaimer
You need to take a large amount of care, and caution when creating, and using these kinds of harnesses. Poorly constructed harnesses can lead to them coming apart, which will result in injury, or possibly death. ALWAYS consult an expert prior to doing this.
